Ashley was enjoying the trip to the local department store. She loved going to the music department and listening to some of her favorite tunes on the headphones. But today was a little bit different, the music department was more crowded today than it had been. She actually had to wait in line to listen to her music, she had never had to do this before. Finally she got her turn and she enjoyed listening to every minute of her rock-n’-roll music.
That night as she was taking a bath, she developed an earache. She thought that it might have been the shampoo she was using went into her ear, and that it would be alright tomorrow morning.
Ashley woke up that night at 1:08 AM with her ears throbbing. She grabbed her ear and she felt a warm sticky substance. She turned the light on and screamed. Her mother came into her room to see an awful sight. Blood was running out of Ashley’s ears all down her face. Ashley’s mom grabbed her and took her to the emergency room.
After waiting several hours the doctor finally came and told Ashley’s mom about her condition. He told her that Ashley somehow gotten very bad bacteria in her ear, and that Ashley’s hearing would severely suffer. He asked her mom what Ashley could have done to get the bacteria in her ear. Her mom didn’t know what to say, and told him that he had better ask Ashley.
Ashley told them how she had listened to the headphones at the music department, and about the crowd of people in line. The doctor and Ashley’s mom went to the store, the doctor took a swab around the headphones and asked the manager not to let anyone else use the headphones.
When the tests came back, the doctor called Ashley and told her that the music store was where she had gotten the bacteria in her ear. He told her to never use them again.
